The long Isthmus of Panama offers a variety of avifauna. Over 972 bird species with 107 regional endemics distributed in five Endemic Bird Areas.

In addition to this, over 100 of the species are from South American origins or not found in the rest of Central America.

Coiba National Park – Panama

Coiba Panama was separated from about 12,000 to 18.000 years ago, when sea levels rose. Plants and animals in the new island was isolated from the mainland, during which time most of the animals have diverged in the appearanceand behavior of their continental counterparts.
