Origin of the City of Santiago

Santiago was founded by people from Montijo and Santa Fe in the seventeenth century, who gathered in this place, they decided to found a population that serve them starting center for expeditions and was established south of the river Martin Large, commonly called river‘s jets.

Evidently, Santiago did not exist in 1606 when the Bishop of Panama, Don Antonio Calderon, drafted the relationship of the people who formed the Province of Veraguas. Santa Fe (the oldest), San Pedro del Montijo, La Atalaya, Our Lady of Remedies and Chiriqui appear, called Alanje. The District of Santiago is composed of the following district: Santiago, La Colorada, La Peña, La Raya de Santa María, Ponuga, San Pedro del Espino, Canto del Llano, Los Algarrobos, San Martin de Porres, Edwin Fabrega, Carlos Santana.
