Gulf of Montijo is Wetland Reserve, this beautiful nature is located in the southern part of the province of Veraguas, in the districts of Montijo, Sona, Rio de Jesus, Mariato and Santiago. It covers a total area of 89.452 hectares between sea and land area.
In the Gulf of Montijo is approximately 13.7% of the country’s mangroves (about 23.439 hectares), no doubt a source of extraordinary wealth. It is one of the main fishing areas in the Panamanian Pacific and represents 8% of the total mangrove cover in the Central Pacific.
