Panama Fishing Tour Details

The estuaries of the Gulf of Montijo are, without any doubt, one of the most picturesque places of Veraguas and the best scenario for sport fishing, for its abundance of fish as for the size and quality of the catch; it will become fishing days in unforgettable days.

Mangroves are special places, is a transition from river sweet water and offshore saltwater, become in a unique ecosystem, some of our mangrove fish are at times, unpredictable and very aggressive and will put up a tough fight. They also have no problem at all aggressively hitting a trolled lure, especially on light tackle.

Traditionally, fishermen have used different methods and techniques of fishing, in still water and in the river and the sea. The most widespread ways, the waiting, in which natural baits are used, it was joined over time fishing with artificial, sportier, which technique consists in imitating shapes, colors and the movement of the bait, they are known as methods of spinning, trolling, jigging and fly cast, more commonly known as “fly fishing.”

Among the species that can be commonly found in the area, we have red snapper, maigre, sea bass, tarpon, among others.

Mangrove snapper (also known as gray snapper) and yellow seabass (Convirnas) are some of the best-eating fishes in the estuaries of the Gulf of Montijo. These snapper fish, especially in the size you will encounter, make for great fishing action when kids are on board, keeping the kids busy reeling in fish.

What to Expect in our Fishing Adventure

The boats are located in our facilities, in El Bongo de Montijo, about 24 kilometers from the city of Santiago, by road in the direction of Puerto Mutis. At the end of the street almost to the banks of the San Pablo River.

We will continue along the San Pablo River until reaching the heart of the Gulf of Montijo, where we will find a number of mouths of other tributaries, as well as innumerable sports fishing spots, some not so well known by others.

The charter is dedicated to fishing the most picturesque parts of Veraguas abundant with fish species of all kinds. It is operated by a professional captain whose goal is to show everyone the beauty and natural wealth of this part of Panama.

Fishing is aboard Coiba’s Spirit a 25-foot Wellcraft angler boat originally built in 1990 and restored in 2014. It is powered by a 275 HP Mercury engine, with a cruising speed of 30 knots, which means you can get to the fishing destination very quickly. The boat has a Lowrance GPS, fishfinder, snorkeling equipment, safety equipment, spearfishing equipment, Tuna tubes, outriggers, and a Livewell for the bait.

Also, we have a smaller boat for 3 anglers is a Bayliner Trophy, 18 feet powered by a 140 Suzuki engine, with a cruising speed of 30 knots. The boat has a Lowrance GPS, fishfinder, safety equipment, spearfishing equipment, and a Livewell for the bait.

We can provide rods, reels, tackle, and live and artificial baits. This is a child-friendly charter and you are welcome to bring your kids for a great family day on the water which can be educational and fun. The fishing trip can be in an area of your choice depending on the seasonality and the species you wish to catch.

Group Size

Our boats have a maximum capacity of 7 adults comfortably seated. With enough space to move around and walk during entire trip. However when it comes to fishing, things change, for safety and to have enough space to fight with the fish, the groups are not more than 4 fishermen.

Requeriments

Most of our clients have some experience, however it is not necessary to have fishing before, you can count with us to teach you the basic techniques and make their day an unforgettable adventure. Group Traveller

I had a wonderful experience with Angelo and Captain Mansur. Very professional. I went on a day that, by the text book, wasn’t the greatest day for fishing; however we did end up with some fish! We did inshore fishing and used three different styles. We bottom fished, trolled, and also did some casting. The team was very attentive to my fishing experience and stopped what they were doing to help with fish or snagged line. They had coolers and ice for the fish and a separate one for any drinks I brought. I went with a friend and they let us play the music that we wanted on the boat stereo system. They are very knowledgeable on where to go and move from place to place to find where the fish are. It was a neat experience and one I will definitely repeat. The boat can hold up to 4 people besides the captain and his first mate. The fishing gear and tackle were all in good shape and the boat clean and in order. On my trip I got to see a good bit of wildlife as well. A crocodile, some dolphins and turtles. Plus fish! Angelo also took pictures of the experience and sent them to me, which was neat because it’s hard to take pictures while you are fishing. This is an easy recommendation to make. If you’re interested in some fun inshore fishing. These are some great folks and you’ll have a good time.
